WASHINGTON · 2026

Washington paycheck, no state income tax.

Washington does not tax wages. A capital-gains tax can apply to long-term gains above a threshold, and it is not withheld from a paycheck.

What is different about Washington

Washington has no tax on wages. The state’s capital-gains tax is a different tax, on long-term gains, and it is not taken out of a salary. Leave the state box on “no state income tax” for a Seattle or Spokane paycheck. Do not type a made-up rate to approximate the capital-gains tax. That tax is not on the W-2 wage this page is built for.

A single filer on $110,000

Standard deduction $16,100, no 401(k), no state tax. Federal income tax is about $15,370. Social Security is $6,820. Medicare is $1,595. Net is about $86,215 before health insurance, HSA, or any other deduction. The form above starts on this wage so you can change filing status without redoing the arithmetic.

The nine states with no wage tax are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. They are not the same place. They are the same payroll math. The comparison page lists them together.

Reading the Washington result

Washington’s capital-gains tax is not a wage tax and is not taken out of a Seattle paycheck. Do not invent a percentage to stand in for it. If the income is a salary, the state line is zero. If the income is a long-term gain, this page is the wrong tool.

On the wage this page opens with, $110,000, a single filer with no 401(k) owes about $15,370 in federal income tax after the $16,100 standard deduction. Social Security is $6,820 and Medicare is $1,595. The state line is $0. Federal tax and FICA are the whole withholding story on this page. A rough net is $86,215 before health premiums. Biweekly, that net is about $3,316.

Use the main calculator when the wage is not the one printed here

This page fixes the state setting so the common mistake, typing a guessed rate, is harder. The brackets, the wage base, and the 401(k) treatment are the same engine as the US paycheck calculator. Change filing status on the form rather than multiplying the single result by two. Married filing jointly has its own standard deduction and its own brackets. A second job is not modeled. Local tax is not modeled except where the paragraph above tells you to add a county or city rate yourself.
