1 JULY 2026
Resident tax rates for 2026–27.
The bracket thresholds did not move. The rate between $18,200 and $45,000 fell from 16% to 15%. That is the change a 2025–26 calculator will get wrong.
| Taxable income | Tax on this income |
|---|---|
| $0 – $18,200 | Nil |
| $18,201 – $45,000 | 15% of the excess over $18,200 |
| $45,001 – $135,000 | $4,020 plus 30% of the excess over $45,000 |
| $135,001 – $190,000 | $31,020 plus 37% of the excess over $135,000 |
| $190,001 and over | $51,370 plus 45% of the excess over $190,000 |
On $80,000, tax is $4,020 plus 30% of $35,000, which is $14,520, before Medicare and before the low income offset. The offset is already zero at $80,000. Medicare at 2% is $1,600. Total $16,120. The calculator is this table plus those two adjustments.
From 1 July 2027 the 15% rate is legislated to fall again, to 14%. Do not use that rate for the year that starts 1 July 2026. Foreign residents have no tax-free threshold and are not on this page. Superannuation guarantee paid by an employer is not subtracted from taxable salary here.
Questions
Did the tax-free threshold change?
No. It stays at $18,200. The rate just above it is what changed, from 16% to 15%.
Is Medicare in the table?
No. The table is income tax. Medicare levy is extra for most residents.
